The Ultimate Hair Mask

Last night I tried out a natural DIY hair mask. This mask contained the ultimate ingredients for super healthy hair:

Eggs: Eggs are rich in protein, the high amount of protein from the raw egg helps rebuild your hair follicles and heal split ends. Eggs are also said to help your hair grow, as well as add shine, thicken, and strengthen your hair.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil has numerous benefits for your hair, ranging from: hair growth, softening, shine, and helping with split ends. Coconut oil helps seal in moisturizer in your hair, provides natural nutrients which help soften your hair. Coconut oil contains vitamin K, vitamin E, and iron which helps eliminate dandruff as well as helping your hair growth.

Olive Oil: Olive oil is a natural conditioner for the hair and promotes scalp health. Olive oil has plenty of antioxidants which are essential to keeping the skin of your scalp in healthy shape. Olive oil can help your hair get shiny and very soft. Olive oil massages can improve the blood circulation in your scalp. This increased blood flow can stimulate the follicles, which then produce thicker strands.

The Ultimate Hair Mask

The combination of eggs, coconut oil, and olive oil give your hair the best possible combination for having your healthiest hair.  My results were incredible, my hair was incredibly soft, shiny, voluminous, and it shockingly felt thicker (after one use). I absolutely LOVED this hair mask, and will continue to use this method when I want the ultimate hair mask treatment for my hair.

Ingredients:

1-2 raw eggs (depending on how much protein you want in your hair/the length of your hair)

1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil (depends on the length of your hair)

1-2 tablespoon of olive oil  (depends on the length of your hair)

Directions:

– Warm up the coconut oil for about 15-20 seconds (Allow it too cool for about 1-2 minutes)

Combine the coconut oil, eggs, and olive oil together (Whisk it all together until it is very smooth)

– Apply the mask everywhere, with a focus on your ends and roots

-After application, apply a bag (grocery bag) on your hair to seal in the mask/create heat

-Leave the mask in your hair for a minimum of one hour

-Wash out with lukewarm to cool water (hot water can potentially cook the raw egg *gross*)

-Shampoo and condition afterwards

-Enjoy your beautiful hair !

I would love to know if you guys like it, and what your thoughts are after you try out this amazing & natural DIY hair mask!

  1. I am African American and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this hair mask!!! My hair has grown an additional 6 inches in 4 months using this mask. I do this EVERYDAY Saturday morning and my fiancée calls it my breakfast in my hair lol I prefer to apply it on while my hair is dry, then put on a shower cap. I leave it in for about an hour. I have had in it for less time than that and my hair was still amazing looking. Depends on time. I then rinse it with lukewarm water in the shower and use Keratin shampoo and conditioner. It’s so silky and soft afterwards!! I have really thick hair so it takes me about 25 minutes to blow dry. I also use a heat protectant on it prior. Kui Kui oil is what it’s called. Lastly I flat iron it and I’m ready to go! I always get compliments on my hair. Thank you so much for posting this hair mask when you did. My hair growth journey has come a long way since!

  2. I am giving this a try tonight. I have always had a thinner spot on the top, back of my head. I hope it helps it. I am going to try it overnight since it is late.

    1. Danielle, have you tried this hair mask for your bald spot, since your comment here on Sept 6, 2016? I would like to try it but need a testimony. Would you please let me know if hair grew on your bald spot? Please reply to my email address rpelley01@gmail.com. Thank you in advance.
      Raymonde

  3. I tried this today but I think I used too much and now my hair is greasy and it won’t wash out! What do you recommend I do? I shampooed and conditioned it twice too! Still nothing 😬

    1. Hey Kari! You need to shampoo really well. That’s pretty much the only thing you can do! I’ve had this happen when I used too much coconut oil and it’s a pain! I showered twice in one day before, so try to shampoo again twice? And see if that helps! Goodluck!

    2. Take your time and work up a good lather; massage your scalp, as well. Rinse thoroughly and blot your hair with an old towel. See if it is still sticky. Rinse again with a vinegar and water mix. What shampoo & conditioner are you using?

      1. I am using coconut milk shampoo and conditioner. I shampooed a total of 3 good times now but I can keep going! I did the higher amount of everything because I thought my hair was long enough for it 😬

      2. Let your hair dry for now and give it a rest. If still tacky, try a less conditioning shampoo like Suave. Next time cut down on the amount of coconut oil and if your hair is completely covered, put the rest in the fridge for next time. You don’t have to use all you make.;)

  4. I’m trying this mask right now. I hope it works. After I shampoo it out, I’m braiding it for the next day. I really want know how it’ll turn out until tomorrow morning when I take it down. Wish me luck.

    1. My hair was so soft. It was wonderful. I colored my hair Tuesday night. I’ll be doing another mask every Sunday. I’m really curious to see how it works on freshly colored hair. I love it.

  5. I tried this today and was so impressed! Since having my son my hair has been a constant mess and buying expensive hair masks isn’t an option. Oh, I miss Moroccan Oil 😍. I was really pleased with the results! I will keep it up for sure.

  6. I tried this mask for the first time today, and I loved it! I left it on for an hour then shampoo and conditioned, and tadaaa! I let my hair air dry. It feels so soft, and looks so shiny! This will now be my Sunday ritual!

  7. I have some product in my hair… Maybe some dry shampoo and a little rough guy hair glue stuff… It’s all pretty much brushed out tho… Can I go ahead and put the mask on now?

    1. Because you have glue in your hair, I would definitely think you need to wash all of that out before applying a mask, especially since this contains an egg. The thought of egg yolk and glue sounds like a really bad combination lol

  8. This is honestly one of the worse things I’ve ever done to my hair. I dont know if it was the egg or what but it left my hair dried out completely and i had to do a deep conditioning treatment. Never will I do this again.. =/

    1. Hey Cindy, Sorry to hear about your experience. This is actually the first time I’ve heard of such a thing happening, but everyone’s hair is different and not everyone can achieve the same results with a hair mask. Hope your hair turned out ok after your treatment.

      1. I might have some insight on this. Someone I know recently tried this hair mask and microwaved the coconut oil to allow it to melt. Apparently this strips it of it’s nutrients and my friend had “hair like straw” afterwards. Hope this helps!

  9. This did not work at all in my hair. I have naturally wavy hair and it completely dried it out. First my hair was falling out. It’s was super naughty. I shampooed conditioned and then went to bed and in the morning it looks like it made more split ends and it feels super dry. I have very long hair so maybe that is the reason. But I don’t not recommend this.

    1. Sorry to hear about your experience Tasha! I’ve heard some a few people
That it’s dried their hair out as well. Not all masks are for every hair type. If your hair is super dry probably just a coconut oil hair mask will help repair it as oils do. Goodluck!

  10. if i use this on my afro hair will it make it soft to the point where i can just leave my hair out and it will be nice and manageable

    1. By natural hair so you mean hair that has not been dyed? And if so, yes why not 🙂 it’s just a couple of natural ingredients that will help nourish your hair. If your not into the egg portion you can always leave it out and use coconut oil and olive oil without the egg.

  11. I stumbled upon this site and have read all the comments, questions and replies from Cindy. Now I have questions. Is this mask used to help your hair look and feel smooth, full of life, bouncy, etc or is it also used to help hair grow back, meaning that I now have a lot of bald spots on my head (no hair) and was diagnosed as having Alopecia (hope I spelled it right). Will this mask help my hair grow back on those bald spots? If so, how often should I use this mask on my head and do you have an idea how long before I notice hair starting to grow on those bald spots?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

    1. Hi Raymonde Pelley!

So the mask is suppose to make your hair softer, shivery, help with split heads, and as you said pretty much make it come back to life. When I tested this out, my intention wasn’t for hair growth, and I personally haven’t noticed that. So the mask isn’t for growing your hair, if others did so and it helped them Then that’s great..but I would recommend a vitamin or maybe a dietary change to Help with your hair , also they say Castrol Oil helps as well. Ive heard biotin does wonders, but it will Grow Hair everywhere not just on your head. Also, doing research on what foods can help, because often the reason your hair doesn’t grow
Is due to build up on the scalp or
Possibly something genetic that causes it to grow slower. These are all based on my own trials and errors, I’m not a beautician this is just something I’ve personally learned myself. I hope this helps!! And goodluck with your hair growth in your bald spots dear. Thank you for your comment! ♥

  12. Thank you for your reply. I also read Cayenne Pepper and Olive Oil will help with Alopecia problems so will give that a try. Then, when I get all my hair back, I will try that mask of yours.

  13. loved this hair mask!! it made my hair much softer and shinier- I will definitely use this at least once a month to improve my hair’s health!!

  14. I just did this hair mask this morning. I have very fine collar bone length hair and I used one egg with one tbsp of each oil, and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results! My hair is naturally curly/wavy and usually pretty dry. I just finished blow-drying my hair and didn’t have to use any serums, defrizzers, flat or curling iron……it’s super soft and lays great!!

  15. Needing some kind of help for my hair, I gave this a try. My Scandinavian, 65 YO, very straight, thin, and over processed hair loved this mask!! Me, too! I’d like to add that my hands and face also felt really nice after doing the mask. Those ingredients are great for my hair AND my skin. Thank you so much!

      1. Thank you I usually leave it in 3 hours and after I rinse it out I put coconut oil in my hair for a couple more hours.

  16. I’ve done this mask a few times now but lil more frequent Cuz of this stupid cold, dry parts of this Canadian winter we’ve been cursed. Moisture, shine, volume! Love this mask

    1. Hey Jeremiah! Sure, why not? I don’t see the harm. I would assume that the egg yolk might be difficult to get out, however, in order to prevent that I’d recommend washing your beard really really well.

  17. Literally one of the best treatments I’ve ever done to my hair, I added a teaspoon of honey. But my hair is silky smooth and shiny. I will be doing this again 😁
